Medical Diploma in
Clinical Hypnotherapy

Accredited, Evidence-based and International

Hands-on and practical, this programme equips doctors to integrate clinical hypnosis into medical practice and patient care. LCCH supports you in advancing clinical outcomes beyond conventional treatment.

What Clinical Hypnotherapy Brings to
Medical Practice

Many challenges within modern clinical practice arise not from a lack of treatment options, but from how patients respond to care.

Doctors trained in clinical hypnotherapy are able to:

  • Reduce procedural anxiety and improve patient comfort

  • Strengthen management of chronic pain and stress-related symptoms

  • Incorporate non-pharmacological approaches alongside medical treatment

  • Improve patient engagement, cooperation, and adherence to treatment

  • Address psychosocial contributors to illness within a structured clinical framework

  • Deliver more integrated, patient-centred care

Clinical Hypnosis Provides Structured Techniques That Enable Doctors To:

Many challenges within modern clinical practice arise not from a lack of treatment options, but from how patients respond to care.

Doctors trained in clinical hypnotherapy are able to:

  • Work more effectively with patient response in clinical care

  • Manage complex or treatment-resistant cases, improve consultation flow, and enhance patient experience. Working in this way builds patient trust, strengthens the doctor–patient relationship, and contributes to greater professional satisfaction in everyday practice.

Malaysian Clinical & Academic Network

Clinical hypnosis in Malaysia is supported through a growing network of hospital, academic, and clinical collaborations, reflecting its increasing relevance within healthcare.

Hospital & Clinical Application

LCCH is currently engaged in a pilot study with Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HUKM), examining the application of clinical hypnosis within a hospital setting, including:

  • Pain-related conditions

  • Anxiety and emotional distress

  • Psychosomatic presentations

LCCH has also established collaborations with GP clinics and specialist practices across Malaysia, supporting the integration and clinical application of hypnosis in patient care.

Clinical Hypnotherapy in Medical Practice

Clinical hypnotherapy was introduced to Malaysia over three decades ago and is progressively gaining recognition within medical practice.

A Ministry of Health (MOH) review of the literature has identified potential applications in areas such as chronic pain, addictive behaviours, depression and procedural distress. It is also recognised as contributing to outcomes in clinical contexts where psychological and physiological responses interact.

LCCH has collaborated with Universities and other agencies forming partnerships that have enhanced the position of clinical hypnosis in Malaysia.

Internationally, clinical hypnosis is increasingly recognised as a medical adjunct within healthcare systems, noticeable in Singapore, the UK, and the United States. Malaysian-trained practitioners are also increasingly contributing to this growing field.

What This Means in Clinical Practice

Doctors trained in clinical hypnotherapy are able to:

  • Improve patient engagement, cooperation, and adherence across a wide range of symptoms and conditions

  • Reduce procedural anxiety, improve comfort, and support pain management

  • Communicate more effectively in complex consultations

  • Address psychosocial contributors to illness within a clinical framework

  • Deliver more integrated, patient-centred care

This can support better consultation flow, and improved treatment response in everyday practice.

Impact of Clinical Hypnosis in Malaysia

Clinical hypnosis in Malaysia is evolving from a niche interest into a clinically relevant adjunct within modern medical practice.

Across healthcare settings, it is increasingly being explored, taught, and applied as part of a more comprehensive approach to patient care— particularly in areas where patient response influences treatment outcomes.

1. MOH Recognition

While not formally regulated, clinical hypnosis is acknowledged within MOH (Ministry of Health) materials, with a growing body of research supporting its role in clinical practice.

2. Advanced by Medical Professional

Clinical hypnosis in Malaysia has been shaped through collaborations between medical practitioners, universities, and professional bodies, including work involving:

  • Academy of Family Physicians Malaysia and LCCH collaboration 2006-2016

  • Clinical initiatives within pain management settings, including Institut Kanser Negara (IKN)

  • Sub-specialisation in the Pain Society Malaysia Society of Anaesthesiology

  • Postgraduate pathways, including research-based Master’s programmes in clinical hypnosis at UMS and other universities.

  • Pain management research and clinical applications at Universiti Malaya and Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HUKM)

  • Integration into dental and paediatric dentistry masters degree training at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)

  • Clinical applications in psychiatric and psychological services at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS)

These developments reflect a growing effort to integrate clinical hypnosis within structured medical and academic contexts.

3. Already Applied by Doctors in Practice

Doctors trained in clinical hypnosis are also applying these skills in:

  • Management of depression and anxiety disorders

  • Obstetrics and fertility treatment

  • Corporate well-being

  • General medicine

Not as a replacement for medical treatment but as a clinical extension that enhances its effectiveness.
