About the event
Clinical Masterclass
Where experienced practitioners explore the challenges textbooks don't always prepare you for.
A global Masterclass series bringing together clinical expertise, real-world cases and practical thinking to address the complex challenges practitioners encounter in therapeutic practice.
Working with Complex Trauma: What Do I Do First?
A Practical, Case-Based Masterclass
Complex trauma rarely presents as one straightforward problem.
A client may come to therapy with anxiety, emotional dysregulation, avoidance, relationship difficulties, nightmares or dissociation — leaving practitioners with an important clinical question:
What do I work with first?
Join this 4-hour interactive, case-based Masterclass designed to help practitioners develop a clearer framework for understanding complex presentations, identifying clinical priorities and deciding what to do next.
Rather than focusing on a single symptom or therapeutic technique, the Masterclass explores how to formulate the whole person, consider safety and readiness, respond to destabilisation and develop an appropriate treatment pathway.
Why Attend This Masterclass?
Working with complex trauma requires more than knowing trauma-processing techniques. Practitioners need to understand when to intervene, what to prioritise and whether a client is ready for trauma-focused work.
Through case formulation, clinical decision-making, breakout exercises, group discussion and trainer analysis, you will work through a complex client presentation and explore practical approaches that can be applied within your existing scope of practice.
What You Will Gain
Formulate the Person
Look beyond the presenting problem to understand the client's history, triggers, patterns, resources and needs.
Prioritise Safely
Explore how safety, stability, functioning and readiness influence what should happen next.
Respond Practically
Develop strategies for responding when clients become overwhelmed, shut down, disconnect or struggle to regulate emotionally.
Build a Treatment Pathway
Consider how approaches including Cognitive, EMDR, relational, Systemic and Ego State therapies can inform clinical understanding and treatment planning.
Practical, Case-Based Learning
You won't just listen — you will work through a clinical problem.
After registration, you will receive preparatory case material and a short video. During the live Masterclass, you will take part in case formulation, breakout exercises, clinical discussion, stabilisation work and guided clinical reflection.
Participants will also receive the LSCCH Complex Trauma Clinical Toolkit, providing practical frameworks to support formulation, prioritisation, readiness assessment, stabilisation and clinical decision-making.
Who Should Register?
This Masterclass is designed for practitioners working with anxiety, stress, trauma and emotional wellbeing in therapeutic settings, including:
Counsellors

Whether you are already working with complex presentations or want to strengthen your understanding of trauma-informed clinical decision-making, this Masterclass will help you develop a clearer and more structured approach to deciding what to do first and what comes next.
